The first step in providing our clients with access to quality alternative investments
is finding and selecting managers and investment products from the vast and growing
universe of alternative investments available today. Altegris has a strong product
review team and a robust process for identifying talent.
Finding Niche Hedge Fund and Managed Futures Products
Finding quality hedge funds and managed futures products is not easy, and is a continual
focus of our firm. Our Product Review Team utilizes our deep network of industry
contacts, client referrals, manager referrals, conference contacts and database
analysis to find new investment ideas.
Our initial product screening tends to focus on opportunities with quality managers
that utilize unique strategies. We believe that some of the best of these opportunities
can be found in and around what we call the 'niche' portion of the alternative investments
space, which includes managers with small-to-medium sized asset bases—managers that
may escape the notice of larger industry players.
Pre-Reviewing Hedge Fund and Managed Futures Products
Once we have identified managers and products that are of initial interest, these
products are taken to our Investment Committee, which is comprised of the four Altegris
principals and the Director of Hedge Fund Research. This committee meets every month
and determines which of these initially-reviewed products should move on to the
next stage of product review.
